wurde 1947 in London geboren und studierte Biologie, Psychologie und Soziologie an der University of Sussex und der University of London. Von 2002 bis 2011 arbeitete er als Martin-White-Professor für Soziologie und Direktor des BIOS Centre for the Study of Bioscience, Biomedicine, Biotechnology and Society an der London School of Economics. Seit 2012 ist er Professor für Soziologie
und Leiter des Department of Social Science, Health and Medicine am King’s College in London.
