Leserbilder Astronomie: Comet PanSTARRS above the Milky Way
Comet C/2013 X1 (PANSTARRS) imaged on June 30th, 2016, a week after its closest approach to Earth and moving away toward outer of Solar System, the comet suddenly has lost its ion tail, only the dust trail remains behind its orbit (tail type III). In this widefield image the comet appears above a dense zone of the Milky Way between the constellations Scorpius and Ara with its tail projected towards the globular cluster NGC 6352. The brightest star at upper is Iota Arae and down-left can be perceived the glow of the near star Alpha Arae of magnitude 2.8.
