Leserbilder Astronomie: Jupiter, Moon, and Venus conjunct over the erupting volcano Etna
© Massimo Tamajo
I'm pleased to share this image, taken on August 20, 2025, at 4:55 AM, which captures the conjunction of Jupiter, the Moon, and Venus above the erupting Mount Etna. Mount Etna began an effusive eruptive phase a few days ago. The effusive vent is located between the »Bocca Nuova« crater and the »Southeast« crater, at an estimated altitude of ~2,980 meters above sea level. A lava flow has formed from the effusive vent, currently descending to an altitude of 2,270 meters, but its descent is still ongoing. Occasionally, Strombolian activity also occurs from the Southeast crater. On August 20, I waited from Piano Fiera for the three stars to pass the volcano's profile to capture this fascinating celestial conjunction
