Venus, Jupiter over the Church of the Spina in Pisa. An extraordinary example of Pisan Gothic architecture, the small church of Santa Maria della Spina was built in 1230 on the banks of the Arno River, near an important bridge, the Ponte Novo, which connected the streets of Santa Maria and Sant'Antonio. The bridge was destroyed in the 15th century and never rebuilt.
