Gossypol, ein aromatisches Triterpen aus Baumwollsamen (Gossypum hirsutum; Abb.), Mr 518,54Da, F. 184°C aus Ether, 199°C aus Chloroform, 214°C aus Petrolether. Die Biosynthese erfolgt aus Mevalonsäure über Nerylpyrophosphat und cis,cis-Farnesylpyrophosphat. Es ist leicht giftig und wurde zur Verwendung als Insektizid vorgeschlagen.
